The General Post Office was built in 1849; however significant increases have been made later. There were 3 branch Post Offices in the British government, one at the Railway Station and two in the city, in Moti Bazar and Lahori Mandi. Pillar letter-boxes had been installed in different areas of the city, and they were opened three times a day to collect the mails.
