The masjid is situated Bhati Gate area. There are several steps to climb up to the courtyard of the Masjid. Due to its elevated level, it is called the Oonchi (high) Masjid. Latif in 1892 A.D. give details of its location at Lakarhara Street of Bhati Gate quarters. It is situated on a lofty platform. The mosque is ascribed to a Mashki (water carrier) of Akbar’s time. Latif also mentioned that “a tughra (plate) inscription on an arch of the central hall shows that the mosque was built in the days of Akbar”.
